A lockoff is a built-in feature that locks your seat belt for you. When a lockoff is present, you will not need to engage the locking mechanism of the seat belt.

A belt tensioner tightens the seat belt for you with little effort; it uses leverage to make the job easier. It presses the belt into a channel(s) to shorten it mechanically and create the tension.

load leg

A load leg rests on the floor of the vehicle and manages crash energy to reduce head injury in rear-facing carseats. It’s available on 2 convertible models. Not all vehicles allow load legs.

An anti-rebound bar (ARB) is an energy management feature that helps stabilize a rear-facing carseat and stops it from pivoting around its belt path. ARBs can be found on rear-facing only infant seats and on convertible/all-in-one seats.

KeyFit 35 Euro belt path

European (Euro) belt routing is a feature of some rear-facing only infant seats when installed without the base. The shoulder portion of the seat belt is wrapped around the back of the carrier, which decreases downward movement and force on a child’s shoulders and neck.

Installation/Vehicle Info

Lockoff: Yes
Belt-tensioner for easy install: No

Load leg: No
Anti-rebound bar: Yes

Euro belt path when installed baseless: Yes

Manufacturer’s preferred method of installation: Either LATCH or seat belt

CarSeatSite notes on installation: While LATCH is often preferred for installation, I find I get a tighter installation using the lap/shoulder belt. There’s a learning curve to keeping the shoulder belt tight as you pull it tight and slide it into the lockoff, but once you get it, it’s a great install.

Handle position when in vehicle: Any locked position. OK to leave upright.

Flame retardant free covers available: Yes

FAA approved: Yes, without the base

Crash replacement guidelines: Replace after any crash

Fit to Child

Harness type: No-rethread

Inserts: Newborn, head inserts (optional), shoulder pads (optional), and buckle pad (optional); newborn insert must be removed at 11 lbs.

Preemie fit: Very good

Lifespan/expiration: 6 years

Comments
I sometimes find that a newborn’s or very small infant’s head can get pushed forward by the head insert. If you find that to be the case, simply remove it.
